CAIRO – 9 April 2025: Israeli forces killed 30 people, including 8 children, and injured around 50 more in a massacre on Wednesday in the Shujaiya neighborhood east of Gaza City, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The Israeli forces targeted a four-story home in the neighborhood, resulting in the complete destruction of the building and damaging ten nearby homes, all of which were inhabited.
Rescue teams are still searching for missing persons under the rubble with medical sources expecting the death toll to rise, given the presence of critical cases among the wounded.
The majority of the victims had fled from the outskirts of the neighborhood to its center and were unable to evacuate to another location due to the lack of available shelter, WAFA’s corresponded noted.
The Israeli war in Gaza has killed more than 50,800 people and injured over 115,700, according to the health ministry in the enclave.
Of this total, nearly 1,500 Palestinians were killed since Israel resumed the war on 18 March, shattering a ceasefire that had persisted for two months since January.
The Israeli war has devastated the enclave’s infrastructure, homes and vital buildings and left residents on the brink of famine with Israel banning aid from entering Gaza since 2 March.
