Egypt’s FM holds series of high-level meetings on sidelines of ADF2025

CAIRO – 11 April 2025: On the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2025) in Turkey, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of meetings with Ara, African counterparts and leaders, discussing the ongoing efforts to reinstate the ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip, on Friday

Meeting with Somali President

Abdelatty met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, where he reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions. He emphasized the importance of Somalia’s stability to the broader security of the Horn of Africa and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to assisting Somalia in combating terrorism and extremism.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding support at all levels and highlighted the deep-rooted historical and strategic ties between the two nations.

Meeting with Sudanese Sovereignty Council Chairman

On Friday, April 11, Abdelatty also held talks with Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council. The Egyptian minister stressed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s stability and unity, affirming the continuation of joint efforts based on shared history and mutual cooperation.

General al-Burhan commended Egypt’s hospitality in hosting large numbers of Sudanese during recent crises and expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral ties across multiple sectors.

Bilateral Talks with African Counterparts

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Rwanda, Burkina Faso, and Benin. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as development, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.

The talks included an exchange of views on regional developments, particularly the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting peace initiatives and reinforcing collaborative efforts under the African Union framework.

Regional Integration and Support for AU Priorities

In a broader effort to deepen African solidarity, Abdelatty also met with the Foreign Ministers of Angola—currently holding the AU presidency—as well as Zambia, Congo, Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Rwanda. He reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide technical assistance and capacity building in key sectors, while promoting greater economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

These discussions reflected Egypt’s enduring commitment to supporting joint African action, sustainable development, and collective responses to challenges such as terrorism and underdevelopment.

Support was also expressed for the African Union’s candidate for Director-General of UNESCO, Dr. Khaled El-Enany, as part of Egypt’s vision to elevate the continent’s role in global institutions.

Strengthening Ties with Kuwait

In a separate meeting, Abdelatty met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya. The two ministers reviewed the strong bilateral relationship and praised the momentum in cooperation across various fields.

Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s aspiration to deepen collaboration with Kuwait, in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, aiming to further advance shared interests.

The two ministers also exchanged perspectives on the situation in Gaza and coordinated positions ahead of the upcoming Cairo International Conference for the Reconstruction of Gaza. They discussed ways to mobilize international support for the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction, as well as broader regional issues of mutual concern.
