CAIRO - 30 June 2025: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has ordered that the police be deployed at all gates and checkpoints on the Regional Road, which witnessed a tragic accident that claimed the lives of 19 people.
Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Industry and Transport, said on Sunday that Sisi also ordered that specialized committees follow up on the progress of the road’s repairs, and that random samples be taken from drivers to test for drugs.
The president also asked for a clear timeline for completing the Regional Road.
The road requires EGP 50 billion to upgrade it to the same efficiency as the Suez Road, according to Wazir.
He noted that Egypt has advanced to the 18th place globally in road development, noting that EGP 225 billion have been spent on road development in Egypt.
The minister announced that job opportunities will be provided immediately for the families of the victims of the accident, starting with first-degree relatives, and that they will be hired without competition.
