BRICS summit: Egypt's PM affirms rejection of displacing Palestinians away from their homeland

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly said: "The convening of this BRICS summit comes at a critical time, as we face multiple, intertwined crises and challenges, including geopolitical tensions, threats to peace and security, a series of unprecedented economic setbacks, escalating trade protectionism, rising debt levels, climate change, and, above all, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza."

 

The Prime Minister added: "There is no doubt that the most dangerous crisis of our time is the ongoing Israeli war against the innocent Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for nearly two years. This war has resulted in the deaths of more than 55,000 Palestinian civilians, two-thirds of whom are women and children, in addition to approximately 125,000 wounded."

 

"This tragedy is the result of Israel's ongoing violations of international and humanitarian law. Furthermore, Israel continues its repeated violations against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Israeli settlement activities continue in the occupied Palestinian territories," PM continued. 

 

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that Egypt, along with Qatar and the United States, made every effort to reach the ceasefire agreed upon on January 15, but that the Israeli aggression against civilians constituted a violation of this agreement.

 

He added that the ceasefire must be restored, and we call for an immediate cessation of hostilities by Israel, which must abide by international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians.

 

The Prime Minister affirmed his rejection of any plans to displace or transfer the Palestinian population of Gaza away from their homeland, as such proposals threaten the two-state solution and peace in the entire region.
