Citizen Engagement High as Voters Head to Polls for 2nd Day of Senate Elections

CAIRO - 5 August 2025: A large number of citizens lined up at polling stations for the 2025 Senate elections in New Cairo since the early morning hours to cast their votes on the second day of the election.

Polling stations in Sheikh Zayed and Zawya Al-Hamra provided umbrellas and fans outside a number of electoral headquarters to facilitate the process for citizens waiting to cast their ballots on the second and final day of the 2025 Senate elections. This was especially crucial due to high temperatures and a surge in voter numbers during the early morning.

Youm7 observed the keenness of polling station heads to equip the entrances of schools and electoral headquarters with comfort amenities, following instructions from the National Elections Authority. The Authority emphasized the need to provide a suitable environment for citizens, especially the elderly, women, and people with disabilities, to ensure they can exercise their electoral right easily and safely.

Voters continue to flock to the polling stations amid a high level of order and strict organizational procedures that ensure smooth entry and voting. The stations also featured informational signs inside the polling headquarters, which aim to familiarize voters with the correct voting procedures and the steps for casting their ballots under both the individual and list systems.

The signs include a simple explanation of the steps, from presenting the national ID card and receiving the two voting ballots, to the method of placing the ballots in the designated boxes. This process is designed to maintain the secrecy of the vote and the integrity of the procedures, while reducing errors that could invalidate a ballot.

The 2025 Senate elections are taking place across 8,286 polling centers nationwide, aiming to facilitate the process for citizens and ensure their safety.

The elections are being supervised by 9,500 judges from the State Lawsuits Authority and the Administrative Prosecution, including 2,500 female judges working outside their places of residence.
