CAIRO- 3 September 2025: Under the title of "Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future", Korean Ambassador to Egypt KIM Yonghyon held a special Press Salon with key local media on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025 in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Korea and Egypt.
He stressed that Korea and Egypt have built a partnership rooted in mutual respect over the past three decades and that the bilateral ties have grown stronger and more diverse in all areas.
Under the title of "Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future", Ambassador KIM Yonghyon stressed that Korea and Egypt have built a partnership rooted in mutual respect over the past three decades and that the bilateral ties have grown stronger and more diverse in all areas.
He stated that the bilateral trade volumes between the two countries increased five-fold, reaching 3.16 billion USD in 2022, while the Korea has invested a total of 1 billion USD, ranking top 16th investor in Egypt.
The ambassador continued that the Korean Samsung and LG produce state-of-the-art products in Egypt, and export them in the name of "Made in Egypt," revealing that Samsung produces 1.2 billion USD and LG 600 million USD annually
Militarily, the bilateral cooperation resulted in the co-production of the K9 Howitzer by Hanhwa Aerospace. He added that the first K9 manufactured in Egypt will be next year.
Additionally, the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Doosan Enerbility has participated in the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Rotem has provided metro trains for Cairo citizens; contributes to Luxor-Nag Hammadi railway signal modernization and Alexandria tram project, Hyundai Rotem will co-produce metro trains in Suez Canal Economic Zone
Ambassador Kim Yonghyon stated that the inbound Korean tourists to Egypt increased ten-fold, reaching 42,177 last year. According to the embassy's data, Korea's tourists to Egypt reached 42,177 in 2024, with an increase of 26.25 percent, while Egypt's Tourists to Korea rose to 6,419, with 13.75%.

The Mr. Ambassador also noted: "Korea's diplomatic vision under President LEE Jae Myung emphasizes pragmatic diplomacy centered on national interest as well as pragmatic multilateralism. These will also be the guiding stars of Korea's cooperation with Egypt as we jointly take on larger regional, geopolitical and geo-economic challenges."
He introduced the Embassy's vision for the next chapter, as it comes under the title "R.I.S.E.-EKO" which stands for Renewal, Innovation, Synergy, and Excellence in Korea-Egypt relations. He continued that the Embassy will host a series of special events all designed to highlight the richness of our partnership and the promise it holds for future generations.
The ambassador announced that the embassy will organize five major commemorative events, including the following:
· Special Exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Arts (Sep 11th - 28th);
· Special gala concert featuring the world-renowned Korean soprano Sumi Jo, in collaboration with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra at the Cairo Opera House (Sep 12th, 8pm);
· High-Level Economic Conference on Korea-Egypt Economic Partnership and Cooperation at the Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel (Sep 30th);
· Commemorative Ceremony of the 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations alongside the Korean National Day reception (Oct 1st);
· Korea Week showcasing Korean music and Taekwondo (Oct 1st - 9th).
Ambassador Kim underscored that these events are not merely ceremonial but that they reflect the deep friendship, mutual respect, and shared aspirations that have grown between the peoples of Egypt and Korea over the last 30 years and extended his invitation to the Egyptian people to join in the commemoration of this special occasion.
