At least 35 killed in Israeli airstrikes on Yemen: Houthis

CAIRO – 11 September 2025: Israeli forces launched a series of intense airstrikes on Yemen on Wednesday, killing at least 35 people, the AP reported, citing Houthis’ health authorities.

Over 130 others were reported injured, and rescue efforts are ongoing as teams search through the debris.

The strikes came just days after Houthi militants carried out a drone attack targeting the Ramon International Airport in southern Israel, injuring eight according to Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service.

The majority of casualties occurred in the capital city of Sanaa, where both a military facility and a fuel station were hit, according to the health authorities.

Al-Masirah TV affiliated with the Houthis reported that a military headquarters in central Sanaa was among the locations targeted, and nearby residential buildings also suffered damage from the blasts.

The attack marks an escalation in long-range hostilities between Israel and the Houthis, who have claimed responsibility for several past attempts to strike Israeli territory since the Gaza war started in 2023.

The Houthis have repeatedly stated that their attacks are acts of solidarity with the Palestinian people and a response to Israel’s "crimes of genocide and starvation."

Wednesday’s attack comes two weeks after an Israeli airstrike on Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, killed the prime minister of the Houthis’ government and several cabinet members.

The attack also comes a day after Israeli jets struck Hamas leadership in the Qatari capital, Doha, in an unprecedented escalation amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
