Grand Imam of Al-Azhar offers condolences to Emir of Qatar following tragic incident in Sharm El-Sheikh

CAIRO – 12 October 2025: The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, extended his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, as well as to the Qatari government and people, following the tragic traffic accident in Sharm El-Sheikh that claimed the lives of several members of the Amiri Diwan.

The Grand Imam prayed that God Almighty grant the deceased his boundless mercy and forgiveness, welcome them into eternal paradise, and bless the injured with a swift and full recovery. 

He also prayed that the families of the victims be granted patience, strength, and solace during this difficult time.

Also, Egypt expressed its deep condolences to the Qatari government and people following a fatal traffic accident involving Qatari Amiri Diwan officials overnight, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Three Qatari Amiri Diwan officials died and two others were injured while aboard a vehicle. The injured Qataris were transferred to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.

According to Al-Qahera News correspondent, the driver lost control of the vehicle, although the cause of the incident has not been officially confirmed.

The Qatari Embassy in Cairo mourned the victims, who lost their lives while performing their official duties.

The embassy noted that both the deceased and the injured will be transported to Doha aboard a Qatari plane on Sunday.

The deceased officials are Saud bin Thamir Al-Thani, Abdullah Ghanim Al-Khayareen, and Hassan Jabir Al-Jabir.

The embassy extended its gratitude to the Egyptian authorities for their cooperation, for closely following up on the incident, and for providing the necessary assistance.

Egyptian authorities have launched an investigation to determine all the circumstances of the accident.
