Sisi, Norwegian PM discuss Gaza, energy investment in Egypt

CAIRO - 19 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a Sunday phone call from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on the developments in Gaza and broader cooperation between Egypt and Norway. 

Støre congratulated Sisi on the success of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, praising the intense efforts made by Egypt to reach an agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, and for inviting his country to the summit.

For his part, Sisi praised Norway's positions in support of the Palestinian cause, especially its 2024 recognition of the Palestinian state. 

Norway supports the humanitarian work in Gaza, as well as launching a political path towards the two-state solution, the prime minister said, adding that Norway is communicating with all parties concerned to achieve these goals. 

It is important to gradually involve the Palestinians in the administration of the Gaza Strip, with the exception of the Hamas movement, Støre said, according to Egyptian Presidential spokesperson Mohamed al-Shenawy. 

The call emphasized the importance of fully implementing the terms of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, ensuring the continuation of the ceasefire, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and accelerating the launch of the reconstruction process.

President Sisi indicated Egypt’s intention to host another international conference for the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to enhance cooperation with Norway to prepare this conference, which the prime minister welcomed.

The call also witnessed a comprehensive review of the course of bilateral relations since President Sisi’s visit to Norway in December 2024. 

They both expressed their satisfaction with the progress of cooperation, and it was agreed to intensify coordination and build on the outcomes of that visit.

They also agreed to continue to discuss more opportunities for cooperation, especially in the fields of new and renewable energy, including through the Norwegian Scatec company.

Scatec is already operational in Egypt, and Norway is keen to deal with Egypt as a future center for new and renewable energy.
