CAIRO – 20 October 2025: Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, chaired Monday the regular meeting of the Coordination Committee for the Comprehensive Health Insurance System at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the system’s implementation across governorates and examined the health map of Minya Governorate in preparation for its inclusion in the second phase of the system.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar commended the committee responsible for inspecting medical facilities in Minya, which presented a detailed report assessing human resources, medical equipment, infrastructure readiness, and the digital transformation system. The findings will inform a future action plan to ensure effective implementation. The committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, its affiliated bodies, and relevant government agencies.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the meeting reviewed health planning standards for Minya, which comprises nine administrative centers and nine medical sectors, serving more than six million citizens. Discussions also covered the current healthcare capacity, including the number of hospital beds, and outlined requirements for integrating the governorate into the comprehensive health insurance system.

To meet healthcare needs, the plan includes closing the bed gap in two phases — the first adding 1,500 beds and the second providing an additional 1,656 beds.
