Indian Amb. highlights Egypt's role in supporting Palestinian issue, rejecting displacement

CAIRO - 20 October 2025: Grand Mufti of Egypt and Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Authorities and Institutions Worldwide, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayyad, received Monday Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cairo at the headquarters of the Egyptian Dar al-Iftaa.

 

The meeting discussed prospects for cooperation in religious affairs and countering extremist ideology.

 

The Mufti welcomed the Indian Ambassador, expressing his appreciation for the long-standing relations between Egypt and India. He praised India's cultural and humanitarian value, its profound impact on human history, and its tangible contributions to thought and culture.

 

He explained that Dar al-Iftaa possesses extensive experience in combating extremism and hate speech through its specialized research centers, most notably the Salam Center and the Al-Layth ibn Saad Center. He also expressed the Dar's willingness to cooperate with Indian institutions in the areas of correcting concepts and training preachers and scholars, whether in person or through distance learning.

 

He further raised the possibility of forming a partnership through the Dar al-Iftaa's "Dialogue Unit," which is concerned with answering questions and correcting religious concepts. He pointed to the intellectual turmoil and moral confusion currently witnessed in the world, affecting both the East and the West. He emphasized that restoring awareness and activating the voice of moderate religion are the path to correction and treatment.

 

During the meeting, the Grand Mufti emphasized Egypt's principles in dealing with the Palestinian issue, which began with the beginning of the occupation and continues to this day. These principles include supporting the cause at all levels and rejecting displacement. He thanked India for its constant support and standing with the Palestinian people.

 

For his part, the Indian Ambassador expressed his happiness at meeting the Grand Mufti, appreciating the Egyptian state's efforts in making the Sharm el-Sheikh peace conference a success. He praised Dar al-Iftaa for instilling the concepts of moderation and disseminating a moderate discourse. He also commended Egypt's pioneering role, both scientifically and spiritually, in the Islamic world, and the high regard it enjoys in his country, especially in the field of disciplined religious education.

 

The Indian ambassador noted his country's aspiration to expand areas of joint cooperation, including designing specialized training programs for Indian students through specialized research centers.

 

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ambassador extended an official invitation to the Mufti to visit India, expressing his hope that the visit would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two religious institutions and supporting efforts to spread moderation and understanding among peoples.
