DAMASCUS – 13 December 2025: Three US personnel were killed on Saturday when an attacker opened fire on a convoy of American and Syrian forces in central Syria’s Palmyra town, Reuters reported, citing the US military.

The fatalities are two soldiers and a civilian interpreter, the military said.

Three other US soldiers were wounded in the attack, according to the military, while Syrian state media quoted a security source as saying that two Syrian personnel were also injured.

The source added that US helicopters evacuated the wounded to a US base in the Al-Tanf region near the Iraqi border.

The attacker was reportedly killed during the attack, which took place in an area not controlled by the Syrian government.

A senior US official said initial assessments indicate that the Islamic State (ISIS) is likely behind the attack.
