President Sisi receives phone call from DR Congo president

CAIRO – 17 December 2025: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Wednesday from President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The call addressed distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and the DR Congo, spokesperson for the presidency Mohamed El-Shenawy said.

Sisi expressed his appreciation for the ongoing communication and consultation with Tshisekedi, commending his participation in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and hoping to receive him soon in Egypt to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Tshisekedi praised the momentum in Egyptian-Congolese relations, expressing his appreciation for the support Egypt provides to his country in various sectors.

The call also addressed the latest developments in the eastern DR Congo.

President Sisi welcomed the signing of the Doha Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Congolese government and the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement.

He also expressed Egypt's full support for the peace agreement signed in Washington in December 2025, emphasizing that it represents a crucial step towards ending the state of tension and enhancing security and stability in the Great Lakes region.

The president affirmed Egypt's readiness to exert every possible effort, including providing the necessary forums for the concerned parties, to support the conflict resolution process.

The president of the DR Congo expressed his appreciation for Egypt's support for peace and stability efforts in his country and the region.

The two leaders agreed on the need to intensify efforts to overcome any obstacles that might hinder the implementation of the peace agreements.

The spokesperson noted that the two presidents agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral consultation and cooperation on issues of common interest, which would contribute to achieving stability, peace, and development in the DR of Congo.
