CAIRO – 23 December 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Tuesday discussed in a phone call with Turkish opposite number Hakan Fidan the ongoing arrangements for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Egypt in the first quarter of 2026.
The visit is set to include Erdoğan co-chairing, alongside President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The phone call came within the framework of consultation between Cairo and Ankara on ways to bolster bilateral relations, as well as an exchange of views on a number of regional issues of mutual interest, spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of the visit in building on the positive momentum witnessed in Egyptian–Turkish relations in recent months.
He expressed hope that the visit would contribute to strengthening economic cooperation, increasing trade exchange, and encouraging mutual investments in a manner that serves the interests of both countries.
The call also addressed ways to further enhance bilateral relations.
The spokesperson added that the two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of consolidating the ceasefire and moving to the second phase of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, stressing the need to establish a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the daily affairs of citizens in the Strip, paving the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its powers and responsibilities.
The top diplomat also stressed the importance of deploying an international stabilization force and launching an early recovery and reconstruction process, while affirming Egypt’s complete rejection of any measures or practices that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territories, including ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank.
Regarding developments in Syria, the two ministers exchanged assessments of the latest developments.
Abdelatty highlighted the importance of advancing toward a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in Syria that preserves the unity of the Syrian state and its territorial integrity and fulfills the aspirations of the Syrians.
He highlighted the need to de-escalate tensions, prioritize political solutions and dialogue as the sole path to achieving stability, and reject any practices that threaten the security of civilians.
At the conclusion of the call, the two ministers agreed on the importance of continuing consultation and coordination in the coming period on various regional and international issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, in a manner that supports stability and enhances shared interests between the two countries.
