CAIRO – 9 January 2026: Egypt expressed its appreciation Thursday for Lebanon’s efforts to assert full state authority across its territories.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the completion of the first phase of a plan to place weapons under state control south of the Litani River. The ministry described the move as a clear demonstration of Lebanon’s commitment to reinforcing state sovereignty and the role of its legitimate institutions.

Egypt stressed that the step represents a responsible national path aimed at safeguarding Lebanon’s stability and unity, upholding the rule of law, and advancing the interests of the Lebanese people while contributing to regional security.

The statement also highlighted the importance of full implementation of the Nov. 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement by all parties and strict adherence to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. Egypt expressed its firm rejection of any military escalation threatening Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity.

The ministry further called for Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese lands and an end to violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
