Egypt denies claims of bird flu cases in poultry farms

CAIRO – 10 January 2026: The Cabinet’s Media Center denied reports circulating about the appearance of bird flu in Egyptian poultry farms and concerns over its potential impact on poultry prices.

In a statement published across its official social media platforms, the Media Center confirmed- following coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation- that no cases of bird flue have been detected in any poultry farms nationwide.

The Ministry affirmed that its active surveillance teams are intensifying monitoring campaigns across all governorates as a precautionary measure. These efforts target poultry farms, markets, and migratory bird routes, and include regular field inspections, comprehensive veterinary examinations, and the collection of samples for laboratory analysis at the Animal Health Research Institute to ensure birds are disease-free.

The Ministry further explained that the slight increase in poultry prices during the current period is attributed to the succession of social and religious seasons, which traditionally lead to higher demand for poultry and poultry products. It emphasized that current prices remain approximately 20% lower than those recorded during the same period last year.

The statement also noted a significant increase in Egypt’s exports of poultry and poultry products to international markets, underscoring the absence of any disease outbreaks within the country.

In a related context, the Ministry highlighted the growing number of isolated poultry production facilities, in line with the regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), reflecting the stable health status of Egyptian farms. Additionally, poultry and table egg production rates have increased by 14% compared to the previous year.
