Egypt’s FM stresses importance of rapid deployment of international stabilization force in Gaza

CAIRO – 3 February 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, received a phone call on Tuesday from Elina Valtonen, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments of mutual interest.

During the call, Minister Abdelatty expressed his desire for close coordination with his Finnish counterpart to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation.

He commended the results of the consultations held last May and emphasized the importance of maintaining regular political dialogue to bolster ties. He also stressed the importance of enhancing economic relations, encouraging Finnish investment in Egypt's promising sectors, supporting private-sector cooperation, and establishing an Egyptian-Finnish Business Council.

Abdelatty further emphasized Egypt's interest in cooperating with Finland in the fields of digital transformation, information and communication technology, artificial intelligence, and technical and vocational training.

The call also addressed regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed his Finnish counterpart on efforts to ensure the implementation of the second phase of the U.S. peace plan and to support the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a temporary transitional body tasked with managing the daily affairs of the Strip's residents. He emphasized the need for concerted international efforts to support these endeavors.

He also stressed the importance of the swift deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, and oversee the Israeli withdrawal from the Strip. He explained that these steps would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction based on the needs of Palestinians in Gaza.

Minister Abdelatty concluded by emphasizing the necessity of de-escalating regional tensions to prevent further instability. He stressed the need to create a conducive environment for prioritizing diplomatic solutions and reaching political settlements that support regional security and stability.
