Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al Azhar expresses solidarity with Lebanon

CAIRO – March 8, 2026: President Joseph Aoun received a phone call on Sunday from the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, who inquired about the current situation in Lebanon and expressed his solidarity with the Lebanese people during this difficult time.

President Aoun thanked the Grand Imam for his sentiments and expressed his appreciation for the solidarity shown with the Lebanese people and his prayers for an end to their suffering as soon as possible.

On May 19, 2025, President Aoun, on Monday visited the Grand Imam in Cairo. Grand Imam accepted an invitation from the Lebanese President and agreed to open Al Azhar Beirut Institute. Al Azhar is one of the top Islamic Sunni institutes in Egypt.
