Global acclaim for Egypt’s anti-drug strategy at UN Vienna

CAIRO - 10 March 2026: Egypt’s innovative approach to combating drug abuse received significant international recognition during the 69th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs at the UN headquarters in Vienna. Under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction (FDCTA) showcased a national strategy that has set a new standard for regional and global cooperation.

 

 

Leading the Egyptian delegation, Amr Osman joined over 2,000 global participants and 110 official speakers to highlight Egypt’s success in integrating prevention, treatment, and social rehabilitation.

 

 

This recognition follows Egypt’s pivotal role in 2025, where it spearheaded the Arab League’s anti-drug roadmap and provided strategic technical support to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). As a result, the FDCTA has been officially designated by the Arab League as the regional hub for coordinating drug control efforts across the Arab world.

 

 

The human element of Egypt’s strategy was personified by 17-year-old volunteer Judy Mohamed, who represented Egyptian youth at the International Youth Forum for Drug Prevention. Selected by the UNODC, Judy is part of a massive network of 35,000 volunteers—64% of whom are women and 75% university students.

 

 

This "volunteer army" serves as the backbone of Egypt's awareness campaigns, reaching schools, universities, and newly developed residential communities. By investing in youth leadership and evidence-based prevention, Egypt continues to solidify its position as a global leader in the fight against addiction.
