Egypt’s FM meets with leading figures and heads of research centers in Moscow

CAIRO – 3 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Friday with several prominent figures and heads of research and study centers in Moscow.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication channels with Russia’s intellectual and strategic circles.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Hamdi Shaaban, Egypt's Ambassador to Russia.

During the session, the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egyptian and Russian research centers. He noted the pivotal role these institutions play in providing the strategic insights necessary to support decision-makers. He further stressed the need to expand joint research and analysis to better support the national interests of both countries.

Minister Abdelatty also outlined the parameters of Egyptian foreign policy, which is anchored in the principle of "strategic balance." He highlighted Egypt’s guiding principles: preserving the nation-state; respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of all states; rejecting internal interference; and settling disputes through peaceful means.

In this context, Abdelatty praised the fruitful strategic partnership between Cairo and Moscow.

He specifically highlighted progress on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone (RIZ) project within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. He noted that these projects embody the productive cooperation and shared desire of both nations to elevate bilateral ties.

Addressing regional stability, the Foreign Minister detailed Egypt's intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain current unrest.

He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, stating that the country is dedicating its full diplomatic weight to halting regional escalation. Discussions also touched upon security arrangements for the post-nuclear agreement period and broader strategies to support stability in the Middle East.

The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion on several regional and international issues. Key topics included developments regarding the Palestinian cause, the future of the international order, efforts to reform the UN Security Council, and the challenges facing the global non-proliferation regime.

For their part, the Russian thought leaders expressed their appreciation for Egypt’s balanced and active role in international affairs. They praised Cairo’s efforts to maintain regional security and expressed a strong desire to further enhance collaboration with Egyptian think tanks and research institutions.
