Minister of Labor: Eid al-Adha holiday from Tuesday, May 26 to Sunday, May 31

CAIRO – 21 May 2026: Minister of Labor Hassan Radad announced on Thursday that the period from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to Sunday, May 31, 2026, will be an official paid holiday for private sector employees covered under the provisions of the Labor Law issued by Law No. 14 of 2025, on the occasion of Eid al Adha.

The minister explained that the decision comes in implementation of Article 129 of the Labor Law, and in line with Prime Ministerial Decree No. 1516 of 2026, which designates the same period as an official paid holiday for employees in ministries, government departments, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies. Examinations, if any, will continue according to schedules set by the competent authorities.

The minister emphasized the importance of unifying the dates of official holidays for employees across the various sectors of the state whenever possible, in order to fulfill the social and national objectives of official holidays and public celebrations.

He also noted that if work conditions require an employee to work during the holiday period, the employee will be entitled, in addition to their regular pay, to double pay for those days or to receive an alternative paid day off, based on a written request submitted by the employee and filed in their personnel record.

The minister directed the heads of the central departments at the ministry’s headquarters, as well as the directors of labor directorates in the governorates, to ensure the dissemination of the relevant circular to workplaces and production sites, implement its provisions accordingly, and emphasize the importance of full compliance.
