Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture raises readiness ahead of Eid El-Adha

CAIRO – 24 May 2026: Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, announced a state of maximum readiness across all sectors of the ministry, its affiliated bodies, and the directorates of agriculture and veterinary medicine in various governorates of the republic. This is part of the state's plan to prepare for Eid El-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) and ensure the provision of the best possible services to citizens during the holiday period.

Farouk directed the establishment of central operations rooms at the Ministry of Agriculture, along with subsidiary units in governorates across the country, which are set to function around the clock to coordinate between sectors, receive citizens’ complaints, and respond promptly to emergencies.

He also stressed the necessity that executive officials maintain a strong field presence to monitor workflow and address any obstacles. Leave for key personnel in the veterinary and land protection sectors has also been suspended during the holiday period.

The minister further instructed authorities to intensify inspection campaigns at livestock markets and slaughterhouses to ensure the health and safety of sacrificial animals and affirm compliance with veterinary regulations.

In addition, the ministry will increase supplies of meat and food products at subsidized prices through its fixed and mobile outlets to help ease financial burdens on citizens during Eid.

Farouk also highlighted the strict monitoring of any attempts to illegally build on agricultural land during the holiday, stressing that violations will be dealt with firmly, and will be removed immediately in accordance with the law.

He concluded by affirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting citizens throughout the Eid holidays, noting that agricultural associations will continue operating normally and hotline services will remain active to receive complaints and inquiries. He added that these measures aim to ensure uninterrupted agricultural production and maintain the safety of food products during the festive season.

On May 23, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced the continuation of the nationwide livestock vaccination campaign against Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Rift Valley Fever, which began on April 28 and is being implemented by the General Authority for Veterinary Services.

According to the ministry, a total of 5,840,800 vaccine doses have been administered so far across villages and districts nationwide. According to an official report submitted to the minister by head of the Egyptian General Organization for Veterinary Services Hamed Al-Aqnas, the total number of livestock vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease has reached 3,135,575 animals, while 2,705,225 animals have been vaccinated against Rift Valley fever.
