Egypt, Tunisia presidents urge diplomatic solutions, de-escalation

CAIRO - 28 July 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a Tuesday phone call with Tunisian President Kais Saied to discuss bilateral relations and regional security concerns, according to a presidential statement.

Sisi congratulated Saied and the Tunisian people on the 69th anniversary of the Republic's declaration, highlighting the deep historical ties between both nations as they mark 70 years of diplomatic relations this year.

Saied reciprocated by extending his congratulations on the 74th anniversary of Egypt's July 23 Revolution.

During the call, Sisi expressed Egypt's full solidarity with Tunisia regarding the wildfires affecting parts of the country, confirming Cairo's readiness to extend necessary support.

Saied briefed Sisi on local efforts to combat the fires and safeguard citizens and property, expressing deep appreciation for Egypt's stance.

Addressing Middle Eastern developments, Sisi warned against current regional tensions escalating into a broader conflict and detailed Cairo's ongoing diplomatic outreach to align opposing positions.

Both leaders stressed the vital need to prioritize diplomatic solutions, contain regional crises, and maintain close coordination on shared challenges.
