Egypt releases Thanaweya Amma results with 75.1% pass rate

CAIRO – 29 July 2026: Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif late on Tuesday approved the results of Thanaweya Amma (national general secondary certificate) examinations, with a 75.1% pass rate under the new system.

According to the ministry, 883,690 students registered for the first-round examinations under the new system, while 825,867 sat for the exams. A total of 620,314 students passed.

Among students in the new system, the Science stream recorded a pass rate of 75.4%, with 382,720 students passing out of 507,415 who took the exams.

The Mathematics stream posted the highest success rate at 81.6%, with 113,651 students passing from 139,302 examinees.

Meanwhile, the Literary stream registered a pass rate of 69.2%, with 123,943 students passing out of 179,150 candidates.

For students under the old system, the overall first-round pass rate stood at 72.1%. Of the 4,172 registered students, 3,620 took the exams and 2,610 passed.

Under the old system, the Science stream recorded a pass rate of 74.5%, followed by 71.9% in the Mathematics stream and 67.4% in the Literary stream.

Thanaweya Amma is Egypt's national general secondary school examination and the country's largest secondary education track, taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year.

The results largely determine students' eligibility for admission to public universities through the centralized government-run coordination system.

Competition is particularly intense for high-demand faculties such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, economics and political science, and mass communication, where admission is based on students' final examination scores.
