Damietta Port confirms smooth vessel movement, full operational efficiency

CAIRO - 30 July 2026: The Damietta Port Authority (DPA) confirmed the continuation of high-efficiency operational activities across the port. Various terminals and berths are witnessing full regularity in vessel arrivals and departures, alongside ongoing loading, unloading, and cargo handling operations in accordance with designated operational targets.

The Authority explained that the port continues to provide its integrated system of maritime and logistical services 24/7 without interruption. This strategy aims to meet the requirements of shipping lines and port clients, ensuring smooth traffic flow and streamlined administrative procedures.

The statement added that cargo handling activities are experiencing notable stability and fluidity across all sectors, safeguarding operational efficiency, workflow speed, and targeted productivity rates.

A preliminary investigation by relevant authorities has found that a drone caused the fire involving two vessels at Damietta Port on Wednesday, Egypt's Cabinet said.

In a statement on Thursday, the Cabinet said no party has claimed responsibility for the incident.

It added that relevant authorities are continuing investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and take the necessary measures to safeguard Egypt's interests and national security.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said a fire broke out involving a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at Damietta Port, without causing any casualties.

The ministry added in a statement that the incident was dealt with immediately in line with approved emergency and rapid response plans, with relevant authorities and firefighting and on-site security teams responding to the scene.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi traveled to the site right after the incident to oversee response efforts, ensure the implementation of safety procedures and coordinate with the relevant authorities until the situation is safely contained.

The ministry added that emergency teams continue to work with the relevant technical authorities to complete the necessary procedures and establish the repercussions of the incident.

The ministry also urged media outlets and social media users to rely on official statements for information, saying it would continue to provide updates as developments emerge.
