CAIRO – 30 July 2026: The Ministry of Transport said on Thursday that operations at Damietta Port are continuing normally at full operational capacity, with vessel traffic and cargo handling proceeding efficiently around the clock.

In a statement, the ministry said all operational activities at the port are running smoothly, with vessels continuing to arrive and depart as scheduled.

Loading, unloading and the handling of containers, dry bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo are also proceeding normally in line with approved operational plans and timetables.

The statement comes after a fire broke out involving a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at Damietta Port on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, without causing any casualties.

The Cabinet said on Thursday that a preliminary investigation found a drone caused the fire, adding that further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and take the necessary measures to safeguard Egypt's interests and national security.

No party immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.

Maritime Services Continue

The Ministry of Transport said all berths and terminals are operating at full efficiency, supported by integrated marine and logistics services, including pilotage, towing and mooring, to ensure the rapid turnaround of vessels and minimize port stay times.

It added that the port continues to provide services 24 hours a day through an integrated operating system powered by modern technologies, helping meet the needs of global shipping lines and port users while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of trade and supply chains.

The ministry also confirmed that cargo-handling operations are being carried out in accordance with the highest standards of efficiency and safety, maintaining the targeted performance levels for imports and exports.

Damietta Port is one of Egypt's leading commercial ports and a key pillar of the country's maritime transport and logistics network, the ministry emphasized.

It underscored the attention that the port receives under the state's plans to develop ports and transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade.
