Bahrain condemns attacks on two ships in Damietta port

CAIRO – 30 July 2026: The Kingdom of Bahrain has condemned Thursday’s attacks on two ships in Egypt's Damietta Port.

In a statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the targeting of the vessels constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.

The ministry stated that the attack represents a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability, as well as global energy supplies.

Furthermore, the ministry reiterated that Bahrain fully supports all legitimate measures taken by Egypt to preserve its sovereignty and national security, as well as to protect its vital infrastructure.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reported that a fire broke out involving a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at Damietta Port, noting that no casualties were reported.

The ministry added that the incident was dealt with immediately in accordance with approved emergency and rapid response plans, with relevant authorities, firefighting crews, and on-site security teams responding swiftly to the scene.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi traveled to the site shortly after the incident to oversee response efforts, ensure the implementation of safety procedures, and coordinate with relevant authorities until the situation was safely contained.

On Thursday, Egypt's Cabinet stated that preliminary investigations by relevant authorities confirmed a drone caused the fire on the two vessels.

The Cabinet noted that no party has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, adding that authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and take necessary measures to safeguard Egypt's interests and national security.
