Egypt, Libya discuss electrical interconnection

CAIRO - 30 July 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed deepening energy cooperation with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh on Thursday.

At the Egyptian Cabinet headquarters in New Alamein, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, natural gas, petroleum exploration, and fertilizer production, alongside accelerating the electrical interconnection project between both nations.

Madbouly stressed the importance of establishing a clear timeline for joint projects, noting that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the historical ties between the two countries during his meeting with the Libyan delegation earlier Thursday. Sisi also highlighted the need to reactivate the joint high committee.

For his part, Dbeibeh expressed Libya's interest in expanding the participation of Egyptian firms in major infrastructure and construction projects.

He proposed hosting a joint business forum and exhibition for Egyptian and Libyan companies to explore mutual investment opportunities.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi, and Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) Masoud Suleiman.
