FM reaffirms Egypt's unwavering support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity

CAIRO - 31 July 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, stressing Cairo's rejection of any unilateral measures or arrangements that undermine the unity of the Somali state.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Friday with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held in Kampala.

The minister conveyed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's greetings to the Somali president, expressing Egypt's pride in the growing momentum of bilateral relations and its commitment to further strengthening cooperation across a wide range of fields.

Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt's condemnation of what he described as the illegal and unacceptable move by Somalia's northwestern region, the self-declared "Somaliland," to open a purported embassy in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem), describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

He underscored the importance of continued coordination with international partners to secure adequate and sustainable funding for AUSSOM, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to supporting Somalia's national institutions, strengthening their capacities and bolstering counterterrorism efforts in a manner that contributes to enhancing security and stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
