FM meets Burundi VP, Djibouti officials on sidelines of Kampala Summit

CAIRO - 31 July 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held two meetings on Friday, July 31, 2026, with Prosper Bazombanza, Vice President of Burundi and current African Union president, and Omar Abdi Said, Djibouti’s Interior Minister, Acting Defense Minister and head of the country’s delegation.

This came during meetings took place on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held in Kampala and hosted by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

Abdelatty attended the summit on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and upon his mandate.

The talks addressed the strong relations between Egypt and both Burundi and Djibouti, as well as ways to further develop cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields.

The discussions also covered developments in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Somalia, with an emphasis on achieving security and stability in the region and ensuring Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.

The meetings included consultations on the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, highlighting the importance of maintaining the mission and securing sustainable funding sources to ensure its continued presence in support of stability in Somalia.
