Area around Egyptian embassy in Athens searched following bomb threat

CAIRO – 31 July 2026: An official source stated that the Egyptian Embassy in Athens received a notification on Friday morning from Greek authorities.

The notification indicated that Greek security services had received a call from an unidentified individual claiming to have planted explosive devices in the vicinity of several foreign embassies—including the Egyptian Embassy and the French Consulate—as well as the Greek Chamber of Commerce in central Athens.

The source added that Greek authorities dispatched specialists from the explosives disposal unit to sweep the area surrounding the Egyptian Embassy to assess the seriousness of the threats and ensure there were no security risks.

According to the source, the Egyptian Embassy in Athens took all necessary precautionary measures immediately upon receiving the notification and continues to coordinate and follow up with the relevant Greek authorities.
