CAIRO - 1 August 2026: The European Union expressed its solidarity with the Arab Republic of Egypt following the drone attack that targeted two vessles in Damietta Port.
The EU condemned this hostile act against Egypt as a serious threat to regional stability and maritime security. It reiterated the need to respect international law and ensure freedom and security of navigation.
The EU affirmed its readiness to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and renewed its commitment to working with regional partners to maintain stability in the Mediterranean and the wider Middle East.
In this context, the EU reaffirmed its longstanding and robust partnership with Egypt, reiterating its determination to continue working together to enhance collective security.
According to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday, Egypt noted that some of these outlets have published inaccurate and misleading information about the incident. In this context, Egypt affirmed that investigations are still underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the responsible party.
Damietta Port is one of Egypt's leading commercial ports and a key pillar of the country's maritime transport and logistics network, the ministry emphasized.
