Saint Catherine welcomes 320 tourists from around the world

CAIRO - 3 August 2026: Saint Catherine witnessed a surge in visitors from various nationalities on Monday, drawn to its religious, spiritual, and archaeological sites, and to enjoy its unique mountainous landscape, which has made it one of Egypt's most prominent tourist destinations.

 

Ibrahim El-Baz, Director General of Public Relations for Saint Catherine, stated that the city welcomed 320 tourists and visitors, including 65 Egyptians.

 

The visitors came from diverse countries, including: Russia, Belarus, France, Tunisia, Argentina, Malaysia, and Romania, reflecting the city's international standing as a leading destination for religious and ecotourism worldwide.

 

 

Enjoying a Unique Spiritual Experience Amidst Breathtaking Nature

 

The Director of Public Relations for Saint Catherine explained that 175 tourists and visitors, including 25 Egyptians, ascended Mount Sinai to enjoy a unique spiritual experience amidst stunning natural scenery, either on foot or by camel.

 

He added that Saint Catherine's Monastery received 118 tourists and visitors, including 27 Egyptians, who explored its most prominent historical and religious landmarks, including the Burning Bush, the Church of the Transfiguration, the museum, the historical library, rare manuscripts, and the Covenant of Muhammad.

 

Al-Baz noted that the city is witnessing increasing popularity, with a rise in the number of visitors from universities, youth groups, and those interested in religious tourism, mountain climbing, and exploring the monastery's collections.

 

 

Saint Catherine's Weather

 

The city experienced hot weather during the day and mild weather at night, with a high of 33 degrees Celsius and a low of 22 degrees Celsius, providing ideal conditions for climbing Mount Sinai and visiting religious and natural sites.

 

After completing their Mount Sinai trek, visitors continued their tours by visiting the Colored Canyons, the late president's rest house, and experiencing authentic Bedouin life. They also purchased medicinal herbs and Sinai handicrafts for which the region is famous.
