Egypt, Greece leaders urge US-Iran deal, discuss Gaza ceasefire efforts

CAIRO – 5 August 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the need for reaching a comprehensive agreement between the United States and Iran during a phone call on Wednesday.

They affirmed the importance of such a deal in helping ease tensions, preventing further escalation, safeguarding the security and sovereignty of Arab nations and preserving regional stability, the Presidency said in a statement.

The two leaders affirmed their shared views on developments in the Middle East.

On Gaza Strip, El-Sisi briefed Mitsotakis on Egypt's efforts, in coordination with mediators, to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.

The president underscored the need for European[AK1]  countries and the international community to support those efforts and help alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The Greek prime minister commended Egypt's vision, which advocates prioritizing political and peaceful solutions to resolve crises.

Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece's commitment to continuing coordination with Cairo on regional and international issues.

El-Sisi welcomed the commitment, stressing the importance of close consultation to promote security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
