FM meets Chadian counterpart to discuss strengthening bilateral relations

CAIRO – 6 August 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met Thursday with Abdallah Saber Fadoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad, on the sidelines of the Egypt-Chad Joint Committee meetings. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on regional issues.

Minister Abdelatty praised the special character of Egyptian-Chadian relations and expressed hope that the fourth session of the Joint Committee would mark a milestone in enhancing bilateral ties. He noted that signing several upcoming agreements would solidify the institutional framework for cooperation to serve the common interests of both brotherly nations. Abdelatty also highlighted the importance of the Egyptian-Chadian Business Forum—held alongside the committee meetings—and reviewed preparations for the El Alamein-Africa Forum, scheduled for October 4 in El Alamein during the African Union's mid-year coordination summit.

The Foreign Minister commended existing infrastructure collaboration in Chad, particularly the Egypt-Libya-Chad road, as well as road construction, maintenance, and recycling projects. He emphasized Cairo's commitment to boosting trade—especially in energy, construction, and logistics—and encouraging greater Egyptian private-sector participation in Chad’s national development plans.

Regarding humanitarian and educational ties, Abdelatty highlighted the Egyptian medical convoy that performed over 500 surgeries in N'Djamena last April, the inauguration of a dialysis center at the central hospital, and the priority of opening the new Alexandria University campus in N'Djamena as soon as possible.

Additionally, the Foreign Minister reviewed capacity-building programs organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding in security, border management, expert deployment, and counterterrorism. He reaffirmed the importance of continued military cooperation to train and develop Chadian security forces.

The two ministers exchanged views on key regional matters, focusing on the Sahel region and the conflict in Sudan. Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions while rejecting any parallel entities. He urged neighboring countries to respect Sudan's sovereignty and refrain from interfering in its internal affairs. Finally, he stressed the principle of Sudanese ownership of any political solution and praised the Quartet's efforts to end the conflict and achieve a comprehensive settlement that fulfills the Sudanese people's aspirations for peace and development.
