CAIRO - 8 August 2026: The Ministry of Health and Population announced that it has received 71,361,710 visits from women to receive screening and awareness services as part of the President's Sustainable Initiative to Support the Health of Egyptian Women, since its launch in July 2019.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry's official spokesperson, explained that these visits include 23,496,267 first-time visits, 34,098,976 routine visits, and 13,766,437 occasional visits.
Early Diagnosis and Detection of Breast Cancer
The spokesperson urged women to regularly check their health through the initiative's services, emphasizing that early diagnosis and detection of breast cancer contribute to reducing the burden on both the patient and the state through effective response to the free treatment protocols provided by the initiative according to the latest international standards.
He stated that 936,669 women visited hospitals for advanced screenings, noting that free services are provided through 3,663 health units nationwide, with the participation of 102 hospitals for cases requiring advanced examination. Abdel-Ghaffar added that the initiative follows the latest international protocols for breast cancer treatment through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, in addition to its activation free of charge in 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals. These centers are also equipped for applied research with the aim of becoming advanced research centers in cancer treatment.
The initiative targets women starting from the age of 18 and includes screening for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, measuring body mass index, and raising awareness about risk factors, reproductive health, and family planning.
Dr. Hatem Amin, Executive Director of the initiative, noted that 39,488 cases of breast cancer were detected, 525,126 mammograms were performed, and 60,657 tumor samples were collected for analysis, with treatment provided free of charge to confirmed cases. Additionally, 162,407 women were examined at the mobile clinics, and 65,007 mammograms were performed at these units.
The initiative continues to monitor the treatment of women with breast cancer, whether they are covered by health insurance or the state-funded healthcare system. Furthermore, training programs have been provided to 30,098 healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, radiology technicians, and pathologists. The initiative also received 36,285 inquiries about its services.
