Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab Al-Louh dies at 68 in Cairo

 

 

The funeral and burial ceremony will be held on Monday in Cairo, the Palestinian Embassy announced in a statement on Sunday.

 

 

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas mourned Al-Louh, who died Sunday morning in Cairo after a distinguished national and diplomatic career dedicated to serving Palestine and defending the rights of its people.

 

 

President Abbas praised the late ambassador’s virtues and national and diplomatic career, highlighting his dedication to duty, high moral character, humility, tolerance, commitment to national unity, and prioritization of the national interest. He also praised Al-Louh’s closeness to his people and concern for their issues.

 

 

Abbas extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, the Palestinian people, members of the Fatah movement and the broader Palestinian national movement, staff of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Egypt, his colleagues, and all those who knew and loved him. He prayed that God Almighty grant Al-Louh mercy and his family and loved ones patience and solace.

 

 

Al-Louh served as the State of Palestine’s ambassador to several countries, most recently the Arab Republic of Egypt. He was appointed Palestinian ambassador to Egypt in November 2017 and also served as the country’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States.

 

 

Al-Louh became involved in the Palestinian national movement at a young age and had a long history of political activism. During his youth, he was imprisoned by Israel for his involvement in the Palestinian national movement.

 

 

He rose through the ranks of the Fatah movement, holding various political, media, and organizational positions before transitioning to official diplomatic service.

 

 

During his years in Cairo, Al-Louh played an active diplomatic and political role, particularly on issues related to the Gaza Strip. He represented the State of Palestine in ongoing coordination with the Egyptian leadership on Palestinian affairs, particularly the situation in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

 

 

Al-Louh consistently highlighted Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and stressed his rejection of plans to displace Palestinians and attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause. He also participated in numerous Arab and international events and conferences in support of the rights of the Palestinian people and efforts to achieve freedom, independence, and the establishment of a Palestinian state.

 

 

His Diplomatic Career

Ambassador Diab Al-Louh held several diplomatic posts, most notably:

* Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab Republic of Egypt: November 2017 until his death in August 2026.

* Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League of Arab States: November 2017 to April 2023.

* Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania: June 2016 to October 2017.

* Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Yemen: September 2013 to May 2016.

* Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the People’s Republic of China: December 2005 to August 2010.

* Ambassador at the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: September 2010 to September 2013.

* Assistant Undersecretary in the Palestinian National Authority: From 1994.

 

 

His Organizational and Media Career

Al-Louh was a member of the Palestinian leadership and a prominent figure in the Fatah movement. He held numerous organizational, media, and intellectual positions over the years, including:

* Member of the General Advisory Council of the Fatah movement since 2009.

* Member of the former Revolutionary Council of the Fatah movement from 1997 to 2009.

* Head of the Department of Media, Culture, and Intellectual Mobilization of the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip from 1993 to 2005.

* Founder and editor-in-chief of Al-Karama weekly, the official publication of the Fatah movement in Palestine, from 1994 to 2005.

* Member of the Higher Revolutionary Committee of the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip from 1993 to 2005.

* Deputy Commissioner-General for Intellectual Mobilization in the Central Committee of the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip from 1994 to 2005.

* Deputy Commissioner-General for Arab and International Relations in the Central Committee of the Fatah movement from 1994 to 2005.

* Director-General of the Media and Information Center (MIC) from 2002 to 2005.

* General Coordinator of the Political Guidance Committees in the Gaza Strip from 1993 to 1994.
