Egypt urges Sudanese-owned political process, affirms support to Sudan unity

CAIRO – 9 August 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions during a phone call with his Sudanese counterpart, Mohieddin Salem, on Sunday.

The call focused on bilateral relations and developments in Sudan, as part of continued consultation between the two countries, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of ensuring that the political process is entirely Sudanese-owned, preserving the country’s state resources and institutions and meeting the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security and stability.

The two ministers also discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations across various fields, with Abdelatty underscoring Egypt’s commitment to developing cooperation that serves the shared interests of the two countries.

Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties that bind the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples.

Since the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began on April 15, 2023, scores have been killed and millions displaced, both within Sudan and across its borders, including into Egypt.
