Health Min. discusses expansion of robotic joint replacement surgeries

CAIRO - 10 August 2026: Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held a meeting Monday with several ministry leaders to discuss mechanisms for expanding the use of robotic joint replacement surgeries.

 

This aims to leverage the latest medical technologies, enhance the efficiency and quality of treatment services, and improve surgical outcomes.

 

The meeting reviewed proposals from various companies and the countries of origin of the robots.

 

Discussions focused on technical specifications and their relative merits, as well as contract terms, pricing for different joints, and contract durations.

 

The meeting also addressed training mechanisms for using robotic surgical techniques, joint coding systems, and pricing for patient services.

 

Participants exchanged views on the best contractual terms to ensure optimal utilization of modern technologies, the development of joint replacement services, and the improvement of healthcare quality.

 

Attendees included Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Insurance; Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Specialized Medical Centers Secretariat; Dr. Mohamed El-Aqqad, Director General of the Specialized Medical Councils; Dr. Nesma Nasr, Acting Director of the General Administration of Pharmacy; and Dr. Nada Gamal, Deputy Director of the Waiting Lists Project.
