El-Sisi stresses supporting partnerships utilizing locally made energy storage batteries

CAIRO – 12 August 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the need to support all types and models of partnerships, with a focus on those using locally manufactured equipment, especially energy storage batteries, according to a presidential statement.

El-Sisi made the remarks during a meeting in New Alamein on Wednesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, and Chairman of Concord for Engineering and Contracting Ahmed Elabd.

The meeting reviewed the role of international partners in providing technical support and financing for renewable energy projects, contributing to Egypt’s position as a regional hub for energy and electrical equipment manufacturing.

El-Sisi also stressed the importance of supporting the localization of industries linked to new and renewable energy as a key pillar of energy security and the green transition.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in implementing Egypt’s national strategy to expand new and renewable energy projects, which targets raising renewable energy’s share to 45% of total power generation by 2028.

The strategy comes as Egypt seeks to increase its reliance on new and renewable energy in its energy mix, requiring an expansion of battery-based electricity storage technologies to secure the national grid and ensure stable and continuous power supplies, the statement said.

Esmat said total investments in the electricity and new and renewable energy sectors have reached around LE 5 trillion since 2014.

Black Sand, Fertilizers, Rare Earths

The minister also highlighted efforts to develop industries related to the electricity and renewable energy sectors.

In this regard, El-Sisi directed efforts to develop local manufacturing in the black sands industry, related value-added industries, fertilizers, and rare-earth elements.
