Egypt, Saudi Arabia urge ignoring media, social media claims on bilateral ties

CAIRO – 12 August 2026: The foreign ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia urged disregarding reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media concerning close relations between the two countries, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan praised the deep, strategic and fraternal relations between both countries during a phone call on Wednesday.

They affirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across various fields.

Their discussions covered preparations for the first Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council meeting, in line with directives from the two countries’ leaderships, as well as the upcoming political consultation mechanism session at the foreign minister level.

They also emphasized the importance of intensifying mutual visits and strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation.

Regional De-escalation Efforts

Amid rapid regional developments, the ministers discussed efforts by regional partners, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to reduce tensions and contain escalation.

They also highlighted efforts made to revive the diplomatic track under the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.

The ministers underscored the importance of addressing existing regional security concerns, respecting states’ sovereignty and avoiding attacks against them, while preventing the conflict from widening.

They affirmed the importance of ensuring the security, safety and freedom of navigation in international waterways.

They also discussed further activating the efforts of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to support de-escalation efforts, strengthen regional security and stability, and enhance cooperation among the four countries.
