CAIRO – 14 August 2026: Israeli strikes killed two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, including the head of Gaza City’s police force, despite an ongoing ceasefire, according to media reports.
Gaza’s interior ministry confirmed that Israeli forces assassinated Police Colonel Jamal Abu Kmail.
Palestinian medics reported that an Israeli strike in western Khan Younis, southern Gaza, targeted two people riding a motorcycle, according to Reuters. One was killed and the other wounded.
Despite a ceasefire that took effect in Gaza last October, Israeli forces have continued near daily attacks, killing hundreds of Palestinians and injuring thousands more since then.
The latest strikes come despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement last month of a breakthrough in efforts to end the war under a plan agreed by Israel and Hamas.
The proposal calls for an Israeli military withdrawal as Hamas disarms, alongside the deployment of an International Stabilization Force working with a new Palestinian police force to secure Gaza.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Sunday his rejection of Trump’s latest Gaza proposal in televised remarks to his right-wing government.
