Israeli strikes kill 11 in southern Lebanon; Beirut condemns attack

BEIRUT – 15 August 2026: Eleven people were killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, authorities said, in one of the deadliest days of attacks since large-scale fighting ended in June.

Seven people, including three children and two women, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the southern Lebanese village of Ansar, while four others were killed in a separate strike on Deir El Zahrani, according to Lebanese media.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri condemned the strikes, describing them as a continuation of Israel’s war of genocide against civilians, property and heritage in southern Lebanon.

Berri stressed that Israel is disregarding agreements, laws and international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and reducing tensions in Lebanon and the wider region.

The Israeli army said the strikes targeted Hezbollah positions and claimed to have killed a Hezbollah commander.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese authorities said a strike on Ansar hit an area where displaced families were sheltering, killing seven civilians.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attack, stressing that those killed were not “military infrastructure.”
