CAIRO - 18 August 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and bilateral relations with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi in a Tuesday phone call.
Both ministers praised the historical ties uniting Egypt and Oman under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The call addressed the upcoming joint Iranian-Omani declaration regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Oman's mediation efforts.
Both sides emphasized the necessity of ensuring freedom of navigation through the strait to de-escalate regional tensions and create conditions for resuming negotiations under the existing memorandum of understanding toward a comprehensive agreement.
The ministers stressed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open is critical to global trade, energy security, and supply chain stability, warning that continued disruptions impact the international economy beyond the immediate region.
Abdelatty and Al-Busaidi agreed to maintain close coordination to support diplomatic solutions and uphold regional stability.
