Saint Catherine welcomes 430 visitors of various nationalities

CAIRO - 18 August 2026: The city of Saint Catherine in South Sinai Governorate witnessed the arrival of 430 tourists and visitors of various nationalities on Tuesday, reflecting the continued popularity of the city, which is considered one of the most prominent tourist and religious destinations in Egypt, thanks to its spiritual and historical significance and unique mountainous landscape.

 

 

Religious, Archaeological, and Natural Attractions

 

Saint Catherine's combines religious, archaeological, and natural attractions, making it a favorite destination for ecotourism, adventure, and mountain climbing enthusiasts.

 

Visitors were keen to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and visit the city's most prominent historical and religious landmarks.

 

 

Diverse Nationalities

 

Ibrahim El-Baz, Director General of Public Relations in Saint Catherine's, stated that the total number of visitors reached 430, including 52 Egyptian visitors. The foreign nationalities included Belarus, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Poland, and the Netherlands, reflecting the growing international interest in the city.

 

He explained that 260 tourists and visitors, including 45 Egyptians, ascended Mount Sinai to enjoy a unique spiritual and tourist experience, whether on foot or by camel, amidst the mountainous nature and distinctive atmosphere for which the region is known.

 

 

Prominent Historical and Religious Landmarks

 

He added that Saint Catherine's Monastery received 175 visitors, including 15 Egyptians.

 

They explored one of the oldest monasteries in the world and listened to explanations about its most prominent historical and religious landmarks, including the Burning Bush, the Church of the Transfiguration, the museum, and the historical library, along with rare manuscripts and the Covenant of Muhammad.

 

They also enjoyed mountain climbing and exploring the region's historical and cultural heritage.

 

Al-Baz noted that the city is currently experiencing a significant increase in visitors, especially university students and youth groups, as well as those interested in religious tourism, mountain climbing, and learning about the region's historical and cultural heritage.

 

After completing their excursions on Mount Sinai, the visitors continued their tours by visiting the Colored Canyons and the rest house of the late president, experiencing authentic Bedouin life and purchasing medicinal herbs and Sinai handicrafts for which the region is famous.
