CAIRO - 22 August 2026: Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, Liao Liqiang, affirmed that Egyptian-Chinese cooperation has achieved fruitful results in the field of development, noting that the Egyptian leadership supports the Belt and Road Initiative and other initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping.

In exclusive statements to the Middle East News Agency (MENA) on Saturday, the ambassador said that China and Egypt are working to strengthen the deep alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and Egypt's Vision 2030, and to support efforts to build the "New Republic" in Egypt through high-quality practical cooperation.

He added that the EgyptSat-2 satellite has contributed to enhancing resource management; connectivity projects have helped develop the road network and new cities in Egypt; solar and wind energy facilities have contributed to promoting low-carbon green development, and water well drilling projects in the desert have contributed to increasing agricultural production.

Livestock Projects

He explained that livestock projects have helped needy families escape poverty and achieve prosperity, and that digital technology training for young people has opened new horizons for employment and entrepreneurship, emphasizing that these projects have brought tangible benefits to the general public.

He pointed out that the TEDA Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in the Suez Canal region, as one of the key projects within the framework of Chinese-Egyptian cooperation in building the Belt and Road Initiative, has successfully attracted more than 200 companies and investments exceeding $4 billion, providing 60,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.

This has made a significant contribution to increasing exports, foreign exchange reserves, and industrial development in Egypt.

The Chinese Ambassador to Cairo stated that the Luban Workshop in Egypt has provided academic education and vocational training to more than 7,400 people, contributing to the development of specialized technical skills for various sectors, such as smart manufacturing, new energy, and automotive maintenance.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's personal interest in these projects, demonstrated by his numerous attendances at their inauguration ceremonies, underscores the high regard the Egyptian side holds for China's practical measures and sincere steps to assist Egypt in achieving development.

Li Qiang emphasized that China's development has remained aligned with global development principles based on mutual benefit. He noted that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the first year of the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development.

Global Development Initiative

The Chinese Ambassador to Cairo added that the fundamental reason for the Global Development Initiative's broad international support and participation lies in its responsiveness to the shared aspirations of the world's people for development and prosperity.

The Global Development Initiative has successfully mobilized over $23 billion, implemented more than 1,800 small-scale, impactful, and beneficial cooperation projects, and trained over 200,000 people in various fields, thanks to the efforts of the China-UN Peace and Development Fund and the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund.

He stated that the figures reflect the achievements of practical cooperation, as well as tangible development developments that have ranged from the cultivation of "Jiwentsao" grass, which contributes to global efforts to combat poverty, to the sustainable development of data synchronization and sharing, and to the "Mazo" platform, which helps countries of the Global South enhance capacity in the field of early weather warning, disaster prevention and reduction.

The Global Development Initiative has brought tangible benefits to the people of more than 120 countries.
