CAIRO – 22 August 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty highlighted preparations for the inaugural African business summit in Alamein during a phone call with Djiboutian Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar on Saturday.
The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa.
Abdelatty highlighted the growing momentum in Egyptian-Djiboutian relations and the two countries’ shared commitment to expanding cooperation, particularly in economic, trade and investment fields.
The Egyptian foreign minister pointed to the directives of the two countries’ leaders to further advance relations, particularly in renewable energy, construction, logistics zones, ports and maritime connectivity.
He also stressed the importance of continued engagement by Egyptian companies and the private sector in supporting Djibouti’s national development plans.
Abdelatty also reviewed preparations for the African Union mid-year summit, scheduled to be held in Alamein on October 4. The summit will be preceded by the inaugural African business summit, held as part of the Alamein Africa Forum.

The forum, he emphasized, will serve as a platform for strengthening economic and investment partnerships between Egypt and African countries, with a broad participation by leaders, senior officials, businesspeople and private-sector representatives from across Africa.
The forum will be held every two years in Alamein, in line with a decision adopted at the African Union summit in Addis Ababa in February, Abdelatty affirmed.
On the Horn of Africa, the ministers exchanged views on the latest security and political developments.
They discussed efforts to promote stability and strengthen regional peace and security in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
