CAIRO - 23 August 2026: Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad met with a high-level Palestinian Authority delegation led by the Vice President of Palestine on Sunday.
The President of the Palestinian National Council and the Head of Palestinian Intelligence also attended the meeting.
The meeting was held as part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to foster Palestinian national reconciliation and unity.
Discussions focused on developments in the West Bank and preparations for upcoming Palestinian elections.
During the meeting, both sides agreed on unifying national efforts to address the current challenges facing the Palestinian cause.
In a Sunday phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the Palestinian Vice President, developments in the West Bank were discussed, with Abdelatty condemning Israel’s expansion of settlement activities, escalating settler violence, and violations in East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of the settlement project in the E1 area.
He warned that the project threatens to divide the West Bank, encircle and isolate East Jerusalem, and undermine prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The call also addressed ongoing efforts to complete the commitments of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan in accordance with the roadmap and move to its second phase.
