CAIRO - 24 October 2025: The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) inaugurated, Friday, the “Farewell Conference and Investiture Ceremony” under the theme “Decades of Impact as Building Blocks for a Prosperous Future,” held at the St. Regis Almasa Convention Center in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital on October 24–25, 2025.
The two-day event marks the official farewell of Professor Benedict Oramah, the outgoing President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, who concludes a decade of leadership that strengthened intra-African trade and enhanced the bank’s resilience. It also celebrates the appointment of Dr. George Elombi as the bank’s new President.
The opening day featured the participation of Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, alongside African leaders, policymakers, and senior executives from the fields of finance, trade, and development.
The agenda includes sessions on Afreximbank’s innovations in capital management, trade finance, and digital transformation, in addition to panel discussions on intra-African trade, industrial development, infrastructure financing, and diaspora engagement. The day concludes with the “Legacy in Harmony Festival,” featuring performances by Davido, Julian Marley, and Innoss’B.
The second day proceedings will feature the Investiture Ceremony, during which Dr. George Elombi will be officially sworn in as the fourth President of Afreximbank since its establishment in 1993. The ceremony will include the oath of office, inaugural address, and an official banquet attended by African ministers, ambassadors, and senior officials.
A Cameroonian national, Dr. Elombi has been part of Afreximbank since 1996, rising through the ranks to serve as Executive Vice President for Governance, Legal, and Corporate Services prior to his selection as President.
Afreximbank, a multilateral financial institution, plays a leading role in advancing trade and investment across Africa, with Egypt as its second-largest shareholder after Nigeria. The bank continues to drive continental integration through innovative financing solutions and its support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
