CAIRO - 25 October 2025: The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has commenced the Investiture Ceremony marking the official transition of leadership to George Elombi, who assumes office as the institution’s new President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Taking place at the St. Regis Almasa Convention Center in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, the ceremony forms part of a two-day farewell and leadership handover event honouring outgoing President Benedict Oramah, who led the bank for a decade.
The proceedings began this afternoon in the presence of senior African policymakers, international partners, and representatives of the financial community. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt is among the key dignitaries attending the event.
Later in the day, Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, will preside over the Oath of Office and symbolic proclamation ceremony. The programme also features addresses from Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and goodwill messages from senior African and AU officials.
Elombi is expected to deliver his inaugural address following the formal investiture, outlining his priorities for the next phase of the bank’s strategic growth and its continued role in financing trade, development, and industrialisation across Africa.
The event will conclude with a formal banquet celebrating the bank’s leadership transition and its enduring mission to strengthen Africa’s economic and financial integration.
